Kelowna Indoor Activities (For a Rainy Day)

Believe it or not, Kelowna isn't always the sunny vibrant place you see in all the pictures. You might be surprised to learn that it does in fact rain here. I know, I know! It goes against everything us Kelowna marketers would have you believe.

Does that mean your day is ruined and you should go home and cry? Maybe.

HOWEVER... if you would rather come up with some new and exciting indoor plans, then this blog is for you. I'm going to list some of my favorite local places to go when the weather just isn't cooperating. And unlike TripAdvisor, my list isn't full of wineries (crazy I know).

Gneiss Climbing

Full disclosure, I love Gneiss Climbing. I challenge you to find a more welcoming bouldering gym with a better vibe. I'm confident you can't. The people, the climbing, the music, everything is awesome here.

If you're sitting there asking what bouldering is, I'll explain. Bouldering is a form of low vertical rock climbing that focuses on dynamic movement and problem solving. You use a set of holds placed on a wall to reach the top, or a specific finishing hold. Routes are ranked from V0 (Beginner) to V11+ (Expert). While it may seem daunting, the important thing to remember is that almost anyone can boulder! If you're unsure, go and give it a shot. For newbies and pros alike, Gneiss has routes for everyone and will provide you with everything you need to get started.

At the time of writing Gneiss currently has two locations in Kelowna. One downtown, and another on highway 97. Both locations feature different climbing styles and routes, so be sure to check both out. They also sell memberships!

If you're looking for your next obsession, this could be it. The endorphin rush from completing a new route is hard to match. Go on and pick up your new obsession. You can thank me later.

Hit Up a Local Brewery

Hey I said my list wouldn't be full of wineries. I didn't say anything about breweries! I've gone ahead and listed a few of my favorites below, but feel free to explore the more than the ones below.

Conveniently, a few of these are even within walking distance of Gneiss. Not telling you what to do, just saying...

Rustic Reel Brewing

https://rusticreel.com/

One of my favorite breweries in town. Be sure to try the Blonde Ale if you want a beer tasting beer, or the Raspberry Hibiscus Sour if you want something a little more exciting.

Vice & Virtue Brewing

Home to some of the most unique brews in the city. If they have it, try the "Love Potion" Raspberry Berliner Vice or the Fact Czecher pilsner.

The Welton Arms

https://weltonarms.com/

The closest thing to a British pub you'll find in Kelowna. At 6.50$ for a pint of anything, this is one of the best deals in town for craft beer. If that doesn't get you, they usually feature a new beer every week.

Go to a Waterpark

You read that right. Kelowna is the proud home of the largest indoor waterpark in British Columbia. H2O Adventure and Fitness center is owner by the city and operated by the YMCA of Okanagan.

The pool features two hot tubs, three waterslides, a lazy river, a competition pool, and an indoor surfing simulator. Yes, indoor surfing.

It's called a Flowrider, and you can either kneeboard or stand up surf on it. It's awesome and way harder than it looks.

You don't need to be a Y member to visit, anyone can go! The park gets pretty busy on weekend dates, so be sure to plan accordingly. Website is here: https://www.ymcaokanagan.ca/Locations/H2O

Twice The Dice Board Game Café

Are you a competitive person? Then how about challenging a group of your friends in some fierce board game battles. Twice the dice has over 800 games to choose from, along with good prices and snack and beer on tap. If you want to kill a couple of hours (and maybe your friends if you lose) this is a great place to do it.
